FRIEDRICH VOM HOFE – Brooklyn, N.Y.
Friedrich vom Hofe was the patriarch of the vom Hofe reel making family. Friedrich's sons, Julius and Edward, both apprenticed with their father and went on to be two of the nation's top reel makers in their day. Friedrich began making reel around 1857 with his eldest son Julius and the reels they produced were marked "F. vom Hofe & Son". Julius later took over the business when his father retired around 1882.
